I absolutely love creating small collections of second-hand treasures that I find at garage sales, thrift shops, estate sales, and flea markets to enhance the various areas of my garden. Are you familiar with the term “vignette”? According to vocabulary.com, a vignette refers to a short yet impactful scene that leaves its audience wanting more. When it comes to decorating, it’s typically best to arrange vignettes in odd numbers, whether you’re working inside or outside.
One of the most creative ways to begin designing garden vignettes is by scoping out your own yard or garden shed for items that can be repurposed. For instance, my partner crafted a charming chair out of sticks and branches from a maple tree that we had cut down. I adorned the seat with a wicker basket filled with annuals and draped a Nelly Moser clematis around the back. The adorable creation was also a hit with a visiting robin, who stopped in for a visit. It seamlessly fits into our flower garden and adds a touch of whimsy to the space.
